People do Extraordinary Things.
You don't have to be a fantastic hero to do certain
things -- to compete. You can be just an ordinary
chap, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging
goals – Sir Edmund Hillary
Edmund Hillary was the first man
to climb to the summit of Everest in June 1953.
Reading various
interviews and his biography, we learn that it
all began with dreaming as a child and despite
the fact
that we know of him, because he achieved an extraordinary
goal, we often forget the ordinary person he was.
He was an accountant in Auckland. As a child he
dreamt of adventure, he read about adventure,
he embellished stories of his own first adventure
– a skiing trip in the mountains 250 miles
outside of Auckland which is where his inspiration
for mountains began.
Mount Everest can be a metaphor
for many people, with the challenges and exhilarations
being no less poignant, no matter what the adventure.
What does it take for ordinary people to do extraordinary
things?
It takes inspiration, a dream, passion, commitment,
flexibility and a willingness to learn from what
life has to offer along the way. Setting intentions
every day about what you will do, helps focus
and guide your dreams to become a reality.
What is the “Everest” in your life
that you are waiting to climb?
Colour in the trees.
As October is here with cold nights and warm days,
the trees are changing colour. The leaves are
different hues of yellow and orange and red. I
walk down the road and idly move leaves aside
with my
foot, remembering the heat of summer just a few
weeks ago. The colour reminds me of the palette
of life, the richness in diversity that exists
in our world and how there is no one “right”
way to do something
and no one “right” thing to believe
in. Life is an ever changing play in which we
live.
Enjoy your play.
Warmly,
Barbara.
