Add More Adventure to your Life
Volume 1 Issue 9November 25, 2003
Idea for
the week:
Learn as if you were going to live forever. Live
as if you were going to die tomorrow.
--Mahatma Gandhi
What would you choose to learn today
if it could change your life?
What would you be willing to do?
I invite you to begin keeping a
journal of things you are grateful for daily.
(See my personal note
at the end where I first heard about this).
What can you learn from all you have to be grateful
for?
Feature Article:
Investment in Responsibility
Once you shift from blaming yourself or others
to responsibility in each area of your life, there
is another step open for you.
That step is fully accepting responsibility for
the gifts you have been given in life.
When you fully accept responsibility for them,
it becomes apparent that action is also required.
We are given specific gifts in this life in order
to share them with others for the benefit of the
world.
There is a beautiful quote I have
seen:
What you are is God’s gift
to you
What you make of yourself is your gift to God
-- author unknown
If you do not believe in God, substitute
Life or the world. The effect is the same.
What gifts or talents have you been
given by Life?
What gifts do you have that you don’t quite
see?
How are you making the most of those
gifts right now?
1. Make a list of 3 things you do
well and are surprised that others don’t
seem to do.
2. Be curious about what others do that is different
and write down 3 things about another person where
you see their gifts.
3. Check out and see if these are undeveloped
gifts in you.
Frequently we see in other people
things that are within us.
When you fully own the gifts you
have been given, you have an investment in responsibility
that is
empowering. You see the value in your gifts and
the value of others. It is both contagious and
freeing. The investment is worth the cost. You
get to be comfortable within yourself.
Gratitude.
For the past few years I have been practicing
a daily attitude of gratitude…sound trite?
Yes, in
some ways it is and yet it has had a profound
effect on my life.
I fist came across the idea of writing five things
down every evening before I went to sleep that
I was grateful for, from that day in the book
“Simple Abundance” by Sarah Ban Breathnach.
When I began practicing this, I first noticed
how easy it was to be grateful, then I noticed
how many more things than five I had to be grateful
for…and then I hit a REALLY bad day! Even
on that day, I found 5 things I could be grateful
for and despite a harried day, I went to sleep
peacefully knowing that tomorrow could be different
– if I choose that.
I don’t always write them down, but rarely
do I go to sleep without remembering specific
things that day that I am grateful for.
Enjoy your week and for those who celebrate it
– Happy Thanksgiving.
Warmly,
Barbara.
